You won't have to worry about the sony part. You can see more in that thread that I posted.Įasiest wiring for an XLT would be to use the for-11ck harness. I used 1/2" mdf and traced the old speaker and then traced my new speaker. But a 6.5" will require you to custom make some brackets because you have to "lift" the speaker towards the door skin in order for it to fit in the 6x8 hole. It is easier to design a 6.5" as it is round compared to an oval shape. If you want better sound, a 6.5" will sound better. If you want easy, match the door speaker size. In my XLT specifically, should I purchase a component speaker set, OR purchase coaxials AND a pair of tweeters, and how should I wire them up? I’m confused as to how the factory component set is wired up, and if there is a factory crossover or how the factory setup communicates with one another, etc.? My primary question is about the front component install. I want to add a small subwoofer behind the rear seat, and will likely go with the Kicker CompRT 6-3/4” box for ease of installation and minimal modification. I want to amplify the speakers with a small amp I can hide away somewhere with the easiest wiring possible, and i don’t want or care about fine tuning or tweaking for fractional sound improvement (I am almost dead set on installing the kicker Key). I want to do the fronts properly and replace both the door speaker AND the a-pillar tweeter. I have two blown speakers and don’t want to rip the truck up in order to replace them without doing the whole thing right, within reason. My plan is to keep a factory look because I want to keep the budget +/- >$500 and a new HU would muck that up. Reposting it here to hopefully get better year specific input on my questions/dilemma. A bunch of sound deadener ordered from Amazon.Posted basically this same write up in another thread re: an Audio install before i realized it was within the 2015-up sub forum. Stealth sub and block off plates for the door panels ordered from SGS. I'm already well over $3k into this project and didn't even order speakers yet. Mobridge even shipped my order a few hours after calling me so I'm pretty excited to have this amp soon. So now I'm considering buying those MTI A-pillars since I'll have a whole channel just for the A pillars. ![]() They said they'd include wire for the A Pillar tweeters because they are wired into the head unit so I'd need to wire them into the amp. I even have a personal cell number for the rep that handled my order. They called me to ask about what factory system I had and emailed me all the manuals and the wiring diagrams for the truck. I'm impressed with their customer service already. I've never heard of Mobridge but it sounds promising and saves me from buying a zen A2B, DSP, and amp. I also ordered a Mobridge amp that replaces the B&O has a built in DSP and takes the factory A2B signal. I ordered the plug and play version that comes with a kicker amp. ![]() To say the least - I'll have to make compromises and add complication just to use this crap they call an interface and software. I don't truly need the OBDII reader, but using CarPlay and Apple Maps gives me no information about charging, Plus you can't resize the Apple map on the screen to zoom out and look ahead. I can do some things to make life easier, but I shouldn't have to compromise to do so. You can't select any USB music with the truck moving with is absurd. No matter what I did giving a voice command, it would not change to a different antist or album and stay on the USB music. Most of the same music is on the phone in mp3's. If I used voice command to try and change music on the USB drive, it would switch to my phone bluetooth music every time. I have Car Play turned off because I want my phone wifi to be connected to a wifi OBDII reader. This is just the beginning.įrom there - I also want to upgrade the stereo, so I've ripped 60 or so CD's to FLAC and have those plugged in to one of the front USB plugs on an SSD drive. ![]() Trying to use the Ford Navigation, I tried about 10 times to get it to understand an address (did this 3 different times) and it never once found an address. In 4 years of Tesla ownership I can count on one hand the number of times it didn't understand and map an address. Our lives have become complex with devices and my short 400 mile Thanksgiving trip was frustrating.įirst is the navigation. The sad part is the horrible software in the Lightning. ![]()
